A tailor-made strategic consulting session for Food4Education: discover their cross-feedback with Labocéa

The Farm’Innov acceleration programme is currently supporting 14 Kenyan agri-food companies on their path to innovation and success through a tailor-made 10-month support programme, which will run until February 2026. It includes immersion visits in France, consulting services and training provided by French experts from the Valorial network, as well as a number of Kenyan experts.

Food4Education (mainstreams school feeding programs across Kenya and Africa by designing a blueprint, operating it, then supporting replication) has benefited from personalised support from Labocéa (France’s largest public analysis laboratory: animal health, water quality, food safety and the environment). Here is their cross-feedback on this consulting service.

Farm’Innov:
“You took part in a consulting provided by Labocéa in the framework of the Farm’Innov Acceleration Programme. Can you share what you studied with the consultant? And what did you gain from it?”

Amy Muchangi, Senior Associate, Food Safety and Quality, Food4Education:
“The consultancy focused on food hazard identification and control, with a strong emphasis on auditing and risk management in kitchen operations. The sessions provided valuable insights into practical, science-based approaches to preventing contamination and maintaining high food safety standards in daily meal production

We gained a much deeper understanding of how to strengthen our internal food safety systems, from hazard analysis and preventive controls to hygiene verification. It was an excellent opportunity to benchmark our practices against international standards and refine how we ensure the over 600,000 learners we serve each day receive a safe meal.”

Farm’Innov:
“How do you intend to implement the advice and recommendations shared during the consultancy mission within your company?”

Amy Muchangi, Senior Associate, Food Safety and Quality, Food4Education:
“We are already integrating the lessons from this consultancy into our operations, where we plan to standardize food safety monitoring and auditing procedures. This will significantly improve our ability to track compliance and respond quickly to emerging risks across all kitchens.

Additionally, we will train on-ground staff to ensure the knowledge gained is disseminated widely and translated into consistent, everyday practice. The goal is to make food safety a living culture within our teams, one that empowers staff, safeguards learners, and sustains the quality of our feeding program.”

Farm’Innov:
“You took part in a module of the acceleration programme. What did you gain from it?”

Pierre Le Borgne, Food safety Consultant-Expert, Labocéa:
“On behalf of myself and Labocéa, I am delighted to have been able to support Food4education in their food security policy and their mission to support rural kitchens in Kenya. This support has enabled us to broaden our horizons and continue our mission to tailor our support and adapt our missions to the issues faced by the organisations we support. This is already a mission that is close to our hearts when we work in our own country, but it is a real challenge when it comes to international missions, due to the different issues on the ground and the language barrier.”

Farm’Innov:
“How do you plan to use it in your activities?”

Pierre Le Borgne, Food safety Consultant-Expert, Labocéa:
“This mission is a new initiative designed to respond to requests from organisations, and we hope to continue supporting them in this particular context. Creativity, personalisation and teamwork, even remotely, are assets that Food4Education and Labocéa have been able to capitalise on.”
